Lionel Penrose, along with his son Roger Penrose, created two of the more notable impossible objects, the Penrose Tribar and the Penrose Stairs. An impossible object, also known as an impossible figure or an undecidable figure, is a type of optical illusion. It consists of a two-dimensional figure which is instantly and subconsciously interpreted by the visual system as representing a projection of a three-dimensional object. Our Penrose is a system of crosshatch linework that weaves into faceted points anchored in a system of repeating patterns that join in the center.
